UK Contractors Group (UKCG) was officially launched on the 5 January 2009. UKCG's role is to support the industry on sector specific issues. It will leave more general business issues to the newly formed CBI Construction Council.
UKCG members are individual company members all paying a flat rate of £15,000 pa. Affiliate membership will be open to other trade associations for between £5,000 and £15,000 pa dependant on size. Associate membership will be open to organisations connected to the industry (but not construction companies) eg solicitors, professional advisers, at a fee of £5,000pa.
UKCG's principal objectives are:
- To influence policies and legislative changes, specific to the construction sector, proposed by the UK government and EU institutions, to ensure they are proportionate and practicable for the construction industry;
- To encourage contractors to work together (especially in health and safety and environmental issues) to promote change and spread best practice; and
- To work with other industry groups to achieve a single common voice for contractors.
